Sport-Specific Training

Triple Jumpers can jump across the pool while doing their jumping motion they would normally perform down the runway. Hurdlers can step through their “lead leg, trail leg” motion. Basketball players can perform jump shots to a partner deckside. This helps athletes retain the specific neuromuscular coordination and skill of their sport.

Key position practice keeps the muscles strong to be able to get into the key position needed for such things as doing the shot put, discus throw, side lunge for a volleyball dig – you’ll think of ones for your sport.  Simulate those positions with many repetitions.

Keep in mind this basic concept: The more closely you duplicate the exact skill, the better the work transfers back to land.
