KTLA’s Gayle Anderson Features the Latest Information from Heal Your Hips 2nd Edition at CompletePT
Orthopedic surgeon Robert Klapper, M.D. joined Lynda Huey for two live TV segments and one pre-recorded segment at CompletePT on Thursday, November 5, 2015. A 2nd edition of Heal Your Hips was needed to highlight the latest medical and surgical advances in hip preservation. Dr. Klapper explained hip resurfacing as well as the newest diagnosis in hip care, femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). Finding FAI lets people know that their hip may begin a downward spiral and helps guide them to appropriate activities and treatments.
Lynda Huey explained that as surgical technologies have advanced, her pool protocols have had to keep up – changes were made so that only appropriate movements are included that protect healing structures after surgery.
Lecture and Book Signing with Dr Klapper
Later that evening, Dr. Klapper and Lynda Huey had a lecture and book signing event at CompletePT. Listeners of his “Weekend Warrior Show” on ESPN attended as did Twitter followers and some of Dr. Klapper’s and CompletePT’s patients. Nearly thirty people heard both authors speak and many people there had specific questions for Dr. Klapper about their own hips. His colorful, entertaining style was incredibly educational and fun.

Lynda Huey Interview for the BBC
Producer, David Tryhorn, flew to Los Angeles to interview Lynda Huey regarding the Olympic Project for Human Rights. Tommie Smith and John Carlos from San Jose State stood on the victory stand in Mexico City in 1968 with upraised black-gloved fits – a silent gesture that rocked the sports world and triggered greater opportunities for black athletes and coaches. Lynda Huey’s autobiography, A Running Start: An Athlete, A Woman documented that time period when she trained on the San Jose State track with those athletes and others as she felt the Black Power movement growing around her. Three chapters of her book focus on that topic. Her comments were included in the BBC documentary that aired during the Rio 2016 Olympics. If you’d like to watch this piece, email Lynda and she can send you the link. LyndaHuey@CompletePT.com
Five chapters of Lynda’s autobiography details the events that led up to and followed her two teammates’ iconic moment on the victory stand.

Lynda gave the Grand Opening Address at the International Aquatic Therapy Symposium in Brazil
Sept. 5, 2014, 150 attendees.
Lynda spoke about “Preventing Knee and Hip Surgeries,” and took a small group of participants into the local university’s diving well to experience the benefits of deep-water exercise. Dozens more watched from the stands. Everywhere Lynda went, the pools were mostly shallow and there were few flotation belts. The CompletePT belts Lynda took with her were quickly purchased by the physical therapists and students as well as her books, DVDs, and laminated exercise sheets.
Upon Lynda’s return, it was clear that Facebook keeps people connected. Lynda is now friends with several dozen Brazilian “fisioterapistas.”
Giving Pool Workouts to a Top Marathoner
Distance runners, especially marathoners, flock to Mammoth, California, to train at the town’s 7,500 feet of elevation. Training at altitude where the oxygen level is considerably lower than at sea level allows athletes to increase their red blood cell count, which in turn enables them to deliver more oxygen to the muscles when they return to lower altitudes for competition.
Mammoth is home to several of America’s top marathoners. Meb Keflezighi won the Boston Marathon earlier this year with Joshphat (“JB”) Boit running alongside until mile 20. JB dropped back, was passed by five others and came in 7th. Meb was born in Eritrea; JB was born in Kenya. Today both are U.S. citizens. When Lynda vacationed there in mid-September, she took JB in the pool three days in a row because a calf injury was preventing him from running on land. After each session came stretching and the kicking exercises. At the end, JB said he felt like he had had a good work out. That’s the ultimate goal, so mission accomplished!
Photo Shoot in Pacific Palisades
Recently, we shot new underwater photos. Lynda has used LaReine Chabut in four books, so has a library of photos already. By using the same pool, the same photographer, and the same model, we are able to have continuity in showing exercises that look very similar.
